ExMovies: Agatha Christie’s Marple is a British ITV television program loosely based on the books and short stories by British crime novelist Agatha Christie. The title character was played by Geraldine McEwan from the first to the third series until her retirement from the role, and by Julia McKenzie from the fourth series onwards.
Unlike the counterpart TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot, the show took a lot of liberties with Christie’s works, most notably adding Miss Marple’s character to the adaptations of novels where she never appeared. Following the conclusion of the sixth series, it was announced that the BBC had acquired the rights for the production of Agatha Christie adaptations, suggesting that ITV would be unable to make the seventh series of Marple.
Miss Marple, an elderly, single woman of St. Mary Mead, a small village, helps solve even the most mysterious of crime cases. Sharp-witted and of acute intelligence, Miss Marple never lets her age meddle with her determination to get to the root of any case and helps the cops with their intelligence. In this edge-of-the-seat series, Miss Marple puts some nasty criminals behind the bars. Find out, how!
